Plain answers

How it works

Everything about where a thank-you goes, who decides, and how we keep it fair — written so it can be read out loud at a meeting.

Three steps for a visitor

1 · ChoosePick R5, R10, R15, R20 or type your own amount on the home page.
2 · Choose whoThank one steward directly, or send it to the shared pool for everyone.
3 · PayYou pay on iKhokha’s secure checkout — card, SnapScan, Zapper, Apple Pay and more. This site never sees your card details.

The shared pool — and why we recommend it

There are two ways to receive a thank-you: a steward’s own Pay Link, or the shared pool. We recommend running both, with the pool as the default, because the pool solves three problems at once:

  • Fairness. Some spots are busy and some are quiet. A pool means the steward on the quiet side of the centre earns the same as the one at the main gate.
  • Dignity. Nobody has to hold a QR code in a shopper’s face to make a living. The poster on the wall does the asking, not the person.
  • Rotation. Stewards can rotate between areas without their income changing. That removes the reason to fight over the best corner.

How the monthly split works

MonthThank-yous land in the pool account as they are paid.
Last dayTotal is added up and divided equally by the number of stewards on the roster that month.
PayoutEach steward is paid their equal share, and the totals are written up and posted for everyone to see.
RecordsA simple ledger: opening balance, thank-yous received, share per steward, balance carried over. Kept by the centre.
Why not only individual links?

Individual links are still available, and anyone who wants to thank a specific person can. But if individual links are the only option, the money follows foot traffic — and that quietly punishes whoever is working the quiet shift. The pool is the safety net underneath the individual thank-yous.

iKhokha’s iK Pay Link is free to create and needs no website or card machine. You get a link; you share it by WhatsApp, SMS, email or social media; the shopper pays on a secure iKhokha checkout page.

Cost of the toolFree, from iKhokha. There is no monthly fee for iK Pay Link itself.
Setup helpR50 once, if you want someone to register the link for you and put it on your page. After that it’s yours.
PayoutsPaid out by iKhokha to your own bank account or wallet — the money never passes through this website.
Your own cardIf you want a card to carry, we give you the file. You print it yourself, or Postnet here in the centre prints it for you — we do not print anything ourselves. We have no printer.

Nothing on this site holds money. Every button simply opens that person’s own iKhokha checkout.

Joining the programme

  1. The centre introduces you and confirms you work here.
  2. You choose: pool only, your own Pay Link, or both.
  3. You sign a short one-page consent so we may show your first name, photo and the area you work in.
  4. We set up your page. You check it and approve it before it goes live.
  5. If you want a printed card or a poster on paper, we hand you the file, and you take it to Postnet here at Fourways Crossing.
  6. You can ask to be removed at any time — your page comes down and your photo is deleted.

Privacy & POPIA

  • We publish only what you consent to: your first name (or “Steward at the main gate”), a photo if you agree, and your area.
  • We never publish ID numbers, phone numbers, banking details or home addresses.
  • Consent is written and can be withdrawn at any time; we remove your page within a few days.
  • The site does not store card details, and does not track you across other websites.
  • Messages on the wall are checked by the centre before they appear, and can be removed on request.

Frequently asked

Do I have to use the pool?

No. A steward can receive directly, or via the pool, or both. The pool is the default because it is the fairest, not because it is compulsory.

Who can see the totals?

Everyone. The monthly ledger is posted where all stewards can read it. Transparency is what stops arguments before they start.

What if a shopper has no data or no signal?

The poster has a QR code, and there is a short USSD-style alternative: the centre keeps a list of the Pay Links at the info desk, and can send a link by SMS on request.

Is this a charity?

No. It is a thank-you, given directly by a neighbour for a job that was actually done. It is closer to tipping than to donating.

Can you print a QR card or a poster for me?

No — we have no printer, so we will not promise something we cannot deliver. What we do is give you the file. Take it to Postnet here at Fourways Crossing, in the centre, and they will print it for you — a card for your pocket or a poster for the wall. The files are made to print on ordinary A4 paper.

Reading this at a meeting?

The three sentences that matter: nobody holds the money but the bank account; every steward is paid the same share; and the totals are posted for everyone to see.
